iSense research project

blog

The majority of adult people in the world are now able to continuously log and transmit sensor data and personal reports through their phones, a practice that has come to be known as mobile sensing.

Mobile sensing can be used to collect data on both the agent that carries the smartphone and on the adjacent environment. Using state-of-the-art mobile sensing techniques, iSense will continuously track residents in Jerusalem during their daily lives for long time periods (i.e., few years). The project has three main aims:

•Continuously accumulate mobile sensing data to allow cutting edge investigation of people in urban environments

•Translating the collected data into immediate insights relevant to stakeholders

•Promote human-centered and data driven planning practices that support livable environments.

iSense will act as an accelerator of innovative, interdisciplinary ideas that promote livable urban environments. The project aims to gather leading researchers from different disciplines and stakeholders from both the public and private sectors that will jointly promote innovative research and solutions.

In the first phase of the project, we intend to develop the research protocol and test the feasibility and potential of the research design. For that purpose, we intend to start with a pilot research that will focus on sensing the elderly population in Jerusalem.
